There is this simillar movie in Korea but it is ok watching this film since it is not all redundant. Kevin Bacon is fantastic here and the film willingly messes with your mind, creates scares, and delivers tension. Jake's baby-sitter Debbie Kozac is Samantha's sister, who is still distraught because of Samantha's disappearance. Kevin Bacon is in fine, fine form as the film's central hero, a regular guy called Tom Witzky. Then he starts on the cellar. Tom claims he can't be hypnotized.
It is definitely more frightening, more intense, and much more enjoyable than the other latter one. Indeed, all the best scenes in Stir Of Echoes involve interaction between Zachary, Kathryn, and Kevin. Another seemingly incongruous scene places Jake Zachary David Cope and Maggie Kathryn Erbe at a cemetery, where Jake, by seeming happenstance, meets Neil, another open-door traveler into the other world. The next moment, not only are details like the job forgotten, so too is the group and the policeman. Upon waking, Tom realizes he has a psychic connection with his son, Jake Zachary David Cope.
You wouldn't expect this kind of writing in a horror picture. It is a one of a kind movie that is a magnificent cinematic experience. One night at a party, Tom ends up in a discussion with Maggie's sister Lisa, who believes in psychic communication and the power of hypnosis. He starts calling in sick, and his wife Maggie is worried: Is he getting goofy? He also has alarming hallucinations of a missing teenage neighbor named Samantha Jennifer Morrison. Her sister baby-sits Jake, who somehow knows the name of the missing girl; Samantha told him. It was very underrated in 1999 and it deserved and deserves the kind of attention that The Sixth Sense garnered that year from audiences. A man who is into some kind of witchcraft or supernatural activities tells his wife that she'll never leave him alone until he helps her with her predicament.
Kevin Bacon is one of those actors who when he is in the right role is better than anyone, and this role is perfect for him. None of this is spoiler material. He was not just a kid. Great movie that shouldn't be burried. Stir Of Echoes was not it. Bad reviews had me skeptical, but I am a skeptic no longer, Stir of Echoes will most definitely be included in my next Halloween movie marathon! He tries to save a young girl from the fire, but the vehicle explodes and his group is attacked; he enters in coma severely wounded and his friend and neighbor dies.
The film updates the story to a more modern era, thus saving a few dollars, since period pieces are expensive to make. Over the next few weeks, Tom continues to see strange images of a girl asking for his help and believes his sister in-law messed with his mind somehow. He digs up the backyard. The other movie that deals with hypnosis is Danny Boyle's Trance. He plays Tom Witzky, a regular guy with a wife and one underage son. The door, however, remains ajar. It is Neil's explanation that helps Maggie grasp the intensity of Tom's visions, but not understand them.
Stir of Echoes is an intense atmospheric thriller with Kevin Bacon's best performance. If you read this beforehand, it will mean nothing except a clicking into place as you view. After the movies about satanic manifestations in Manhattan skyscrapers, it's nice to see weird things happening to people who hang out in the corner saloon, go to high school football games and walk down the block to church. It was picture sound perfect. One night at a social with his wife, her sister and his closest friend the unthinkable happens. Once convinced that she had nothing to do with it, Tom decides to investigate and try to find out, who this girl is and why she's asking for help.
Two of the nabour boys happens to stop this girl who just got out of her house and rapes her and kills her, burries her inside the wall. I have not read the novel by Richard Matheson, so I cannot comment on how faithfully the film follows its source. The mystery is tough to unravel and I'm sure most people didn't put the pieces together until the movie clarified what happened to the girl and who the culprits are. A girl is missing and she wants him to assist her in finding her body. He states that this is because on video, what the text said was obvious well before it should be known to the audience. Now not knowing all that, Kevin's family moved in. It is all about marketability, and while Stir Of Echoes had this, the companies involved in making or distributing it did not seem to want to spend the cash involved in taking advantage.
Tom likes to hang out with his friends, who include Frank McCarthy and Harry Damon. When his son Max is severely wounded in a car crash where his girlfriend Sammi and their friend Luke die, Ted discovers the wish of justice of the tormented soul and he tries to do the right thing. She opens a portal in his mind, and then his mind starts receiving supernatural visions. Kathryn Erbe is also in great form as his wife, Maggie. As for the paranormal stuff, it wasn't bloody, gory, and out of nowhere but it was just as creepy. He goes from being an ordinary man to having extraordinary visions he can't explain or comprehend.
Trying to avoid this, nearly pushes him to brink of insanity as the ghost wants something from him - to find out how she died. This review contains spoilers , click expand to view. In 1999, the media was in a frenzy about a new film that used real things to terrify and excite its audience. She describes how a person under hypnosis can't feel anything or realize what is going on because they're in another state of mind. While the premise is not overly Stir of Echoes is a deeply unsettling film that is a master class effort in mood setting and atmosphere creation from director David Koepp. The movie sags after its strong start and features a slew of horror movie clichés--séances, visions, and sudden loud noises.
